infinite loop

description

We just installed sensenet608-community-webpi.zip. Installation went smooth.
After running the site for the first time it took a while, always a good sign with asp.net, but then resulted in an error in chrome, but a blank page in firefox and IE.

Debugging the traffic of / resulted:
<h2>Object moved to <a href="/IISConfig/Config.aspx">here</a>.</h2>
Debugging the traffic of /IISConfig/Config.aspx resulted:
<h2>Object moved to <a href="http://sensenet.holoncom.eu/Default.aspx">here</a>.</h2>
Thus resulting in an infinited loop.

I deleted all files, databases, users, websites, and tried again.
Same result.
Please advise.

Hi,
what is the url address you are requesting? "sensenet.holoncom.eu" looks suspicious to me. Also, what type of athentication did you set in IIS? Make sure nothing is enabled only Anonymous. Make sure apppool is running in 4.0. Also, .net 4.0 and asp.net should be registered with IIS. These would be my very first checks if the portal did not start.

"sensenet.holoncom.eu" suspicious? No that is the actual url.
Authentication? Form auth was also enabled. I disabled it+iisreset = same result.
Apppool: double checked.
Executed aspnet_regiis.exe /iru for 32 and 64 versions.
I hope you have more advise.

Should one be able to browse to the readme.txt in the root? Or to an image that one puts in the root? Or are all requests captured and processed?
If I try to browse to readme.txt or an gif that I put in the root, I'm always being redirected to default.aspx.

Only the 'http://localhost' address works right after installation, without further configuration. If you want to access the ECM via the "sensenet.holoncom.eu" address you will need to configure this address in the web.config with the urlList element (see details here: http://wiki.sensenet.com/index.php?title=Site_Content_Type) - and also in IIS.

Thanks, that did the trick.
  1. Some feedback regaring the installation process on the wiki: I followed:
    http://wiki.sensenet.com/index.php?title=How_to_install_Sense/Net_from_web_deployment_package_IIS_7.5_and_IIS_7.0
There you have step 5. Check bindings: Ensure that no other (running) site is binded to localhost.
It was not clear that you where obliged to use localhost.
  2. You pointed me to http://wiki.sensenet.com/index.php?title=Site_Content_Type
    I changed the web.config to use <url host="sensenet.holoncom.eu" auth="Forms" />. But that still didn't work. I got a sensenet 404 error.
So I reverted to the original web.config and forced the website to listen to localhost. That worked!
Then I changed web.config again to use <url host="sensenet.holoncom.eu" auth="Forms" />. Now it worked also.
  3. So maybe step 5 in installation proces should read:
Don't use any other hostname at this moment. To use another hostname you will need to configure this address in the web.config with the urlList element (see details here: http://wiki.sensenet.com/index.php?title=Site_Content_Type). But don't do that now. First make sure it works on localhost. Therefor ensure that no other (running) site is binded to localhost.

Thank you for the remarks. I have updated the wiki articles as recommended. I don't believe however that it is necessary to ping the ECM with localhost before defining any other hostnames. It should work, but let me try this out later.

We did the installation again from scratch to see if it is indeed possible to modify web.config from the first time. And I can confirm that it works. But I agree on how you have put it in the wiki now.
Now I'm ready to dig into the SenseNet world.
Talk to you later.

Hi, I just installed sensenet (6.3) and used sensenet.local as my local hostname since I have multiple sites running on my machine. It did not work, good thing I ran into this post. I just checked the wiki and that has been updated... I should have read it better.

I still think it should work when you do not use localhost as hostname. Sensenet can alsways check the hostname and see that it is running on 127.0.0.1.
